Everybody needs a good DIY Stain Remover
I’m sure you’ve been there. Your kids favorite shirt has a stain on it, tomorrows school and your out of stain remover. Do you want to go to the store? No, but what else can you do? We are not use to making things at home anymore, but our grandmas use to.
There is a simple DIY Stain Remover Recipe that you can use and you probably have the ingredients on hand. One thing you will want to have is an amber or dark spray bottle, as light degrades one of the ingredients. I only had little 4 oz ones today but I ordered the 16 oz ones so I do not have to make this recipe as often.

16 oz. Amber Spray Bottles
The Ingredients
This DIY Stain Remover Recipe contains 2 ingredients: Clear dish soap and hydrogen peroxide.
Hydrogen peroxide is important in this recipe for a couple of reasons.
- It is an oxidizing agent because it has an extra oxygen molecule than water. When it contacts material it releases extra oxygen.
- The extra oxygen helps break down the stains and chemical bonds which gets rid of the color.
- It acts as a mild bleaching agent helping eliminate the color of the stain.

The DIY Stain Remover Spray you want on hand.
It’s simple, it’s cheap, and it works. What more could you want in a stain remover spray for your laundry? I like knowing the ingredients that are in it, instead of so many like you would get at the store. Now I have it any time I need it. Plus if I run out, I always have these ingredients on hand!
DIY Stain Remover Spray
Ingredients
½ cup hydrogen peroxide (3%)
¼ cup dish soap (Dawn works very well)
2 tbsp washing soda
1 tbsp baking soda
4 tbsp warm water
How to Use
- Spray directly on the stain.
- Let sit 5–10 minutes.
- Rub lightly if needed.
- Wash normally.
Shelf Life Tip
Hydrogen peroxide slowly breaks down when exposed to light.
For best results:
- store in an amber spray bottle
- make small batches every 1–2 months
Pro Tip (This Is the Secret Most People Miss)
If you add ½ tsp glycerin, the spray clings to stains longer instead of running off fabric. This improves stain removal on vertical surfaces like shirts.
Glycerin is used in many commercial stain removers for this reason.
