If you haven’t learned the benefits of pistachios on your health yet…you’re missing out! I not on purpose learned of something they help with and it is something not talked about enough!
75 Hard
I started my first round of 75 Hard on July 25, 2023 and what a journey it was. If you’re starting, read my blog on the 3 best books to read while doing I 75 Hard here. I went on to complete the Livehard program, and have now started 75 Hard again less than 6 months after completing it. I did a gluten free, dairy free diet which cut out so many unhealthy snacks. It did wonders for my body.
Around day 30 my body really started burning a lot of calories. At the end of the night my body needed fuel. Not having many options to choose from, a grabbed a bowl full of pistachios thinking the saltiness of them would satisfy me, and they did. Not only was a getting a good amount of protein and healthy fats from them I was getting something else, melatonin.
I had no idea that pistachios contained the most melatonin out of all the nuts. Quite frankly I didn’t know they contained it at all. Since I was snacking on these at night before bed I started sleeping really well. I’m a pretty light sleeper and have a problem getting to sleep more often than not so when I started going to sleep easy I went on to investigate.
Benefits of Pistachios
I started thinking about if I had changed anything in my routine and the only thing I could think of was snacking before bed so I started there. Turns out the benefits of pistachios only begins with melatonin, there is so many things that they help with! Read below to learn more.

- Weight Management: These are and energy dense snack. They may support weight management due to their satiating protein and fiber as well as their healthy fat content.
- Blood Sugar Control: These have a low-glycemic index, that can aid in blood sugar control.
- Eye Health: High levels of lutein and zeaxanthin can benefit your eye health by reducing risk of age related macular degeneration.
- Gut Health: The fiber in pistachios can promote gut health by supporting the growth of beneficial bacteria.
- Nutrient Dense: Pistachios have a range of essential vitamins and minerals including: b vitamins, vitamin E, phosphorus, and magnesium.
- Antioxidant Properties: Antioxidants help combat oxidative stress and inflammation. Just another reason to eat pistachios!
Can you believe it?
I just can’t believe how many benefits you can get from a small nut. Once I read up on them, I stocked up and will always have them available in my pantry. Here’s a tip – buy them at Costco. It’s the cheapest place I have found them! They are so expensive at the grocery store for just a little amount and at Costco you get 3 lbs for $13.99 in store. (This price could vary depending on location, just an FYI) So run out and have these on hand for some added nutrients or maybe just some better sleep.
Besides sleep, my other favorite benefits are gut health and the antioxidant properties. I have dealt with gut issues my whole life which in turn does lead to inflammation in the body, at least in my case. Adding in pistachios has greatly improved those issues for me.
Don’t like the taste of them? Try crushing them and tossing them on top of a salad. It’s a great way to get them in and avoiding the taste if you don’t like them.
I hope you enjoy those benefits of pistachios!
Here’s a pistachio product I have never seen before!
