Growing up classic vanilla ice cream was my favorite. I was always a little bit more of a vanilla girl than a chocolate girl. Don’t get me wrong. I love chocolate, but there’s something about the vanilla that I’ve always loved.

How it started.
Last summer I bought ice cream maker. My husband was training for a hunt and he needed extra protein. He loves ice cream. I had the idea of making him protein ice cream. That way it would be a treat, and he would be getting extra doses of protein that would help him build muscle.
I was making ice cream twice a week. He loved it that much. And honestly, it was a lot of fun. The kids would help me out so they got the experience of making it. They can eat that ice cream because it had extra protein powder in it so I would make them different batches. I ended up finding these containers on Amazon that are super cute And I love seeing them in our freezer. Now that summer is here I’m ready to start making more ice cream.

I took the winter off because it’s just too cold. We’re not a huge sweet family in general. However I am a little bit more lenient when everything is made at home. You can control the ingredients you control how many ingredients and that way you know you’re getting the best quality there is. Many different ways to make ice cream but the one I found I really like. I will say it is a little bit loud but other than that, it worked very well.
What makes it better?
What’s different from last summer is now I have my own homemade vanilla extract. It’s a simple process to make it, but it does take a month or two to develop depending on how strong you want it. It makes me happy that it’s just one more ingredient made from home. It only takes two ingredients, vanilla pods and vodka. Let them soak in a container for 2 months and you have your own extract.
The beautiful thing about ice cream is you can really add whatever you want. You can add M&Ms chocolate chips, nuts, sprinkles, anything. Sometimes it’s fun to let the kids pick two or three really random things and see what comes out. They have a blast and you should feel better knowing that you know exactly the ingredients that are going in, your child’s body. Now there is sugar, but I’ll take regular sugar over toxins and preservatives any day.

How to Make Classic Vanilla Ice Cream
This is such a simple process you’ll wonder why you haven’t done it before. For reference this recipe that I’m using does use an ice cream maker. The ice cream maker has a insulated bowl that you use that you put in the freezer till it’s completely frozen. To make this ice cream in a separable you’re going to mix together all your ingredients. I always start with my milk, then add in my sugar slowly while whiskey then I’ll add in my cream and my vanilla extract. As soon as that’s done pour into your frozen bowl and place into your ice cream maker. Then you’re gonna turn it on and let it go for 25 minutes.
After 25 minutes you’ll have soft serve. You’re going to remove the frozen bowl you’re gonna take your ice cream containers and you’re going to scoop it up and divide it into two of the containers. Then place it in the freezer and tell it’s a lot of flies to the texture of ice cream. Typically takes around 3 to 4 hours. So this is something that you’re gonna want to think about either the day before or at least the morning of if you’re gonna want that ice cream for a party for dinner for an afternoon treat it does take a little bit of time and prep so you wanna keep that in mind.
