Is there anything better on Christmas morning than a cinnamon roll? I don’t know about you… but it’s tradition in my family.
It started with Mama.
My mom started making cinnamon rolls for Christmas morning when I was really young. I don’t know what year it was or how old I was. Now, I know, it is not December, but I’ve been really wanting to make a sourdough version lately. I had to make adjustments from my mom’s recipe, hers calls for whole wheat as well as regular flour. I wanted to change that to all regular organic flour.
It took a couple of times but I worked it out and I love this recipe with sourdough now! And so does everyone else. It fills the house with a cinnamonny, fall and winter aroma that soothes the soul.
Sourdough Cinnamon Rolls are Easy

They may take a little time, but they are easy. If you want them for the morning, you will want to plan out your timing in advanced. I would suggest making them around 8 or 9 pm the night before. Then waking up at 5 or 6 o’clock. (Honestly, you can do later, I have!) to *chill the dough which is optional* and also roll them out and shape them.

They take anywhere from 1-2 hours to rise. It helps if your house is warm. In the cold months, I put the pan of sourdough cinnamon rolls next to our wood stove that burnt out overnight. It still radiates heat throughout the morning so it is the perfect place to put them.

This dough is really forgiving. I’ve found this to be with a lot of sourdough recipes. Just another reason to love sourdough!
