Let me be the first to say… I never thought I would be making Homemade Play Dough. It was always one of those things that I let go and said this will be the one thing that I COULD make but I’m just going to buy it. Then one day while rushing before camping, the two stores I went to didn’t have it.

Incoming… a call to Mom.

It was 8 o’clock the night before we went camping and I always take play dough. Remembering that my mom ALWAYS makes it I gave her a call. I found out I had all the ingredients on hand! And in about 15 minutes I had my Quick and Non Toxic DIY Homemade Play Dough Recipe made and packed in the trailer. Some other things I always bring camping that I make are my homemade Mayo and Relish. I also made a Greek Pasta Salad that I will have to share soon.

I store my play dough in a gallon zip lock bag because it makes a lot. You could also use an air tight container. This Quick and Non Toxic DIY Homemade Play Dough Recipe will last months if stored properly.

The process of making Quick and Non Toxic DIY Homemade Play Dough Recipe

The process of making Quick and Non Toxic DIY Homemade Play Dough is easy. You will mix all your ingredients in a pot and stir on low heat. You will want to be continuously stirring slowly. As it heats up it will get thicker and thicker. Once it is too thick to stir you will take it out and place it on your silicone mat. Let it cool off a little until you can work with it with your hands. Then you will need it for a couple minutes to make sure it’s all incorporated. If at the end there are little bits of flour you can see, don’t worry. They will naturally incorporate with the moisture over the next couple of hours.

In the pictures above you will see the beginning of the process of it coming together. For some reason this time I forgot to add the food coloring. I added it in at the end and it worked just fine. It took a little bit more kneading but that was it.

Notes

If once you are done kneading there are little bits of flour you can see, don’t worry. Those will naturally absorb over the next couple hours.
