Through out my health Journey, (see my blog Fix Your Digestion Issues for more on that.) I have learned that less is more when it comes to food. Starting to dive into what goes into the foods we eat is important. I decided to start making Better for You Homemade DIY Mayonnaise at Home because I can make it quick and eliminate a lot of unnecessary preservatives in just one product.

Take any condiment in your fridge, and turn it around to look at the ingredients. Its a paragraph full. Believe me when I tell you I was SHOCKED when I found out you could make DIY Mayonnaise at Home with only 2 ingredients. Thats insane!

In all truths it can be 4 ingredients if you decide to add a pinch of salt and a dash of lemon but most of the time I’m in a rush so I personally don’t. I digress. .

I decided to start making my own condiments one by one and mastering them to make them quick and easy. If its quick and easy, you are more likely to do it regularly. If it tastes better than store bought that’s a bonus. Mayo definitely tastes better homemade than store bought in my opinion.

I have done this recipe so many times now, I do not even measure anymore. I can pour straight from the oil container into the egg I’m blending and know by the consistency of it if it is done or not. But don’t worry! I included the typical measurements I use below.

One thing I wish I knew…

Trust the process. I tried and failed to make mayonnaise at least a dozen times. All because I didn’t have the patience for one minute. It seems so silly now. When you start blending, the mixture is VERY loose. It seemed crazy to me that adding in more and more oil would actually make it thicker. So what did I do… I stopped and started over thinking I added the oil in too fast. I was wrong. It will get thicker and thicker, just trust the process!

Here’s what you do:

Start with your egg in a container, preferably narrow.

Blend with Immersion blender directly over egg yolk for 15 Seconds.

It should be yellow and frothy after 15 seconds like this.

Then slowly start adding in your oil, in about a minute it should look like this!

  • Place egg in a container, preferably one not too wide.
  • Blend egg with the immersion blender directly over the egg yolk for 15 seconds.
  • Then, slowly start adding in oil and blending together.
  • Do this until all oil is gone and the mixture has thickened to your liking.
